Museums North Bend
Coos County Historical Society Museum

The Coos County Historical Society was founded in November of 1891 and is one of the oldest continuously operating local historical societies in the state of Oregon. A steam donkey used in Coos County logging operations greets visitors to the Museum, located in Simpson Park on Highway 101.

Semi-permanent and changing exhibits explore the area's cultural heritage. They include Native Americans, a formal ca. 1900 parlor, pioneer kitchen, agriculture, and industries such as logging, shipping and mining.

A new museum will soon appear on the Coos Bay waterfront. The new Coos Historical and Maritime Center is designed to celebrate the unique regional identity and heritage of Coos County and to ensure that todayís visitors, as well as future generations, will understand the story of the people, places, and events that make Oregonís South Coast special.

An onsite store offers books and gifts of a historical nature. The Coos County Historical Society is a nonprofit, educational institution incorporated by the State of Oregon to acquire, preserve, and interpret materials that illustrate the history and development of Coos County. The society welcomes donations to its artifact and library collections, especially items related directly to Coos County history.
