Historic Sites Gardiner
Gardiner Community Cemetery

Visitors to the Gardiner Community Cemetery will find graves of pioneers who settled the Gardiner area in the 1850s. Listed on the Oregon register of historic sites, this cemetery offers a chapter in the history of settling the rugged and bountiful Oregon Coast.

Established in 1874, this cemetery is situated on a hillside on an old stretch of Highway 101 in Gardiner and is easily visible from the current highway. Steep cement paths lead visitors to the graves of founding citizens and their descendants, children who never made it to adulthood due to the rigors of pioneer life, and others can be found there.

Maintained by the local Masonic Lodge and the Friends of the Gardiner Cemetery, this site is best suited for daytime visits as it has no power and no water. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
