Highway 101 Florence to North Bend
Siltcoos River Canoe Trail
Starting at Siltcoos Lake, you will navigate past cattails and willowy thickets to reach the river, whose outlet lies just beyond the docks and marinas of Westlake. You can also launch from the Lodgepole Picnic Area farther downriver. As you follow the river, you'll pass forests, dunes and eventually a wide estuary that empties into the Pacific. About halfway between the lake and the ocean is a portage that helps paddlers get around a small dam.
In addition to birds, the area is home to a number of mammals, including river otter, mink, black bear, deer, raccoon, and beaver. As you approach the ocean, you may spot seals and harbor seals.
An area at the mouth of the river is restricted snowy plover habitat for the period from March 15 through September 15.
