Salmon River Estuary

This broad estuary draws numerous water birds. Belted kingfisher, commmon merganser, and bufflehead arrive in winter and spring. Other marsh birds are the marsh wren, red-winged blackbird, song sparrow, American bittern, and common yellowthroat. Raptors include northern harrier, bald eagle, and white-tailed kite.

From Lincoln City, drive north on Highway 101 0.4 miles past the Highway 18 overpass, cross the Salmon River bridge, and locate the pullouts to survey the marsh.
