Bird Watching Lincoln City
Cascade Head Nature Preserve

Mid-difficulty hiking paths meander among stately western hemlock and Sitka spruce, terminating with vistas of the Salmon River estuary, Cape Foulweather, and Pacific Ocean. Birds include Wilson's warbler, varied thrush, wrentit, chestnut-backed chickadee, golden-crowned kinglet, and great horned and north pigmy owl.

From Highway 101 in Lincoln City, drive 2.4 miles north of the Salmon River, nearly to the crown of Cascade Head. Turn left on Cascade Head Road (USFS 1861) and continue four miles -- left at fork -- to the trailhead, or go a mile to Hart's Cove trailhead. The road is closed from January 1 to July 15.
