Bird Watching Highway 101 Tillamook to Lincoln City
Bayocean Spit/Tillamook Bay

While driving to Bayocean Spit, scan the wetlands and flooded pastures for white-tailed kite, killdeer, and Aleutian cackling goose. The spit is encompassed by dramatic Tillamook Bay. In spring and fall, it is most promising when it becomes a stopover for migrating shore birds. Walk the gravel dike to spot red phalarope, tundra swan, brant, snowy egret, and horned grebe from fall through early spring. Great blue heron and green heron, bald eagle, and peregrin falcon may be observed year round.

From Highway 101 S in Tillamook, turn west on 3rd Street/Three Capes Scenic Loop, then proceed three miles to the Bayocean Spit sign. Turn right and follow the gravel road 1.5 miles to the parking lot.
