Garibaldi
One of the early settlements in Tillamook County, Garibaldi is named for the Italian patriot considered the father of his country. Situated at the north end of Tillamook Bay, the Port of Garibaldi is the closest seaport to Portland. This town of 899 is one of the stops on the Fun Run Express, and offers a variety of activities for all ages. Busy fisherman, both sport and commercial, utilize Garibaldi’s harbor and the Miami River. The Northwest Championship Crab Races are usually held during the second weekend of March; the Garibaldi Days Festival is celebrated during the last full weekend in July. At the southern end of town a life-size bronze statue of Captain Gray welcomes you to the Garibaldi Museum of Maritime History. It is open afternoons July through September. Outdoor activities include crabbing, charter fishing, surfing, birding, beachcombing, and wind surfing. Hiking to the famed "G" on a town hillside is a favorite activity for the youth in the area.
