South of Coos Bay is the Hwy 42 turnoff inland to Coquille, the county seat.
Coquille, a community known for its historic homes and the melodrama at the Sawdust Theatre, has been the Coos County seat for more than 100 years. At the chamber office, pick up brochures before strolling through the Carriage Museum.
The Sawdust Theatre, 1st and Adams, opens its 40th season in 2006, at the Coquille Performance Center, Saturdays-only in June; Friday and Saturday in July and August. Sturdivant Park, next to the Coquille River, offers fishing, boat ramp, moorage, and camping.
