Just off Highway 101 south of Westlake, Dunes City was established in 1963 when 629 residents protested against a Federal mandate. In a community of 1,330 residents, Dunes City offers recreational activities associated with Siltcoos and Woahink lakes, as well at the Dunes National Recreation Area that contains the tallest dunes in Oregon.
Visitors will enjoy fishing, boating and other water sports, birding, and mushroom hunting. The Siltcoos River Canoe Trail provides canoe and kayak enthusiasts with much natural beauty. There are also nearby campgrounds and its a short drive to ocean beaches.
