Little Log Church
Surrounded by lovely gardens, the simple Little Log Church at the corner of Third and Pontiac streets in Yachats has been a part of the coastal community for more than 75 years. Built in a cross shape from timber brought down the Yachats River, the church was finished and consecrated in 1930. It was served by ministers from the Evangelical Church, and later by Presbyterian pastors. When the congregation outgrew the diminutive building (it seats fewer than 60), members built a new church a few blocks away. The church and property were sold to the Oregon Historical Society on the condition that the building be maintained as a museum, which it became in 1970. The city of Yachats acquired the site in 1986. Owing to community support, the building was restored in 1993. The pump organ, bell and belfry, selected timbers, pulpit, pews and chairs, woodstove, and windows numbered among original materials re-used. Today the Little Log Church Museum boasts a treasury of local artifacts as well as loaned contemporary works. It is reserved for about 40 weddings a year, memorials, and other events. Reservations also can be made for the 100-year-old pump organ to be played for any event, and the gardens, which include a statue of St. Francis, may be used for receptions. Call for reservations.
