Fort Stevens State Park

Along with forts Canby and Columbia, Fort Stevens guarded the mouth of the Columbia River for almost a century, beginning with the Civil War and continuing through the end of World War II. The site of the fort is now a 3700-acre state park, offering historical, natural, and recreational experiences to visitors of all ages.

The main area of the fort has many of the old buildings and defensive installations. A museum recalls the years of military activity and the lives of the men who served here.

The campground at Fort Stevens is the largest in the Oregon State Parks system. It includes tent camping, RV camping, and yurts.

In addition to the Pacific beaches, freshwater lakes offer recreation opportunities, including swimming, canoeing, and boating. The wreck of the Peter Iredale is a popular site as well.
