Flying Dutchman Winery

The Flying Dutchman winery is the only bonded winery on the Oregon Coast. It is located in Otter Rock, just a short distance from its origins at the Inn at Otter Crest. A future site is planned at the outskirts of Depoe Bay.

The grapes for Flying Dutchman wines are picked up at the vineyards at the moment of harvest and carried over the Coast Range to the salt air environment of an oceanside winery. Within moments of arrival the grapes are gently crushed and the winemaking process begins.

All of the red wines undergo a second fermentation which converts the harsher malic acid, present in all wine grapes, to a softer lactic acid. The results are smooth and velvety wines with an abundance of flavor and aroma. These red wines also spend considerable time in oak barrels developing added flavors of vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. The red wines are bottled unfiltered to preserve the flavor.
