Highway 101 Astoria to Seaside
Fort-to-Sea Trail
Built to commemorate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the trail starts at the reconstructed Fort Clatsop and wends its way 6.5 miles to Sunset Beach. The route is one that the Corps of Discovery used for hunting, fishing, and obtaining salt from the ocean.
The terrain through which the trail passes includes a variety of wetlands, coastal woods, and dunes covered with shore pines. Along the way, the trail passes underneath Highway 101 and is carried over Sunset Lake on a wooden pedestrian bridge.
At the end is an ADA-accessible trail leading from the parking area at Sunset Beach to a viewing platform on the beach. You can finish your trip with a short walk from the viewing platform right to the beach itself. The hike is rated easy to moderate.
