Bird Watching
Pacific City
Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area
Cape Kiwanda, the smallest of three capes on the Three Capes Scenic Route, is graced by a long sandy beach, rock-strewn intertidal habitat, and a prime spot to view Haystack Rock offshore. In fall and winter, while walking on the beach, keep eyes peeled for Pacific loon, western grebe, surf scoter, black turnstone, and surfbird. In summer, large numbers of brown pelican fly over. At night, Semidi Island Aleutian cackling goose roost on Haystack Rock, from November to April.
From Tillamook, drive 27 miles on Highway 101 S, turn west on Brooten Road, then west on Pacific Avenue, turn north on Cape Kiwanda Drive, then go one mile to the parking lot on the left.
