Bird Watching
Tillamook
Whalen Island/Clay Meyers Natural Site
Bounded by the Sand Creek estuary, this coastal ecosystem is a potpourri of fresh- and salt-water wetlands, mixed woodlands, grasslands, and an unusual, indigenous dune sedgeland. Walk the short, looping path during April or September to observe migrating western and least sandpiper, sanderling, and semi-palmated plover. Bald eagle are present all year.
South of Tillamook on Highway 101, turn right on Sandlake Road, turn right again to stay on Sandlake, then right on Whalen Island Road.
