Bird Watching
Netarts
Netarts Bay
All year, this 2,700-acre tidal estuary offers ideal roadside bird watching. In fall and winter, scan for red-throated, common, Pacific, and -- infrequently -- yellow-billed loon, eared, horned, and western grebe, pelagic and double-crested cormorant, and bufflehead, common goldeneye, and surf scoter. Great blue heron are seen in abundance year round, along with great egret. Osprey and brown pelican appear in spring.
From Highway 101 S in Tillamook, turn right on 3rd Street/Netarts Highway W, then proceed six miles to the bay. To observe birds, look for pullouts along the bay.
