Bird Watching
Gearhart
Necanicum Estuary
Thanks to a tidal estuary and dynamic dunes, this is one of the north coast's prime sites to observe migrating shorebirds in September and April, including whimbrel, western sandpiper, yellowlegs, semi-palmated plover, dunlin, and long-billed curlew. Lapland longspur and snow bunting visit the dunes in fall. Substantial numbers of American crow and western gull utilize the flats year round. From Highway 101 in Gearhart, turn west at the light on Pacific Way, then left onto Cottage Way. Turn right on F Street, then left on Wellington to a parking lot at the end.
