Astoria Mitigation Bank Wetlands
Tidal and freshwater wetlands draw numerous duck species in the fall and winter, then shorebirds migrating in spring and fall. Virginia rail, sora, and American bittern are resident. In winter the area is favorable for Lincoln's, golden-crowned, savannah, swamp, and fox sparrow. From Astoria, drive west on Highway 101, turn south on West Marine Drive (Highway 202), then left on Highway 101 Alt, and continue as it makes a right curve at Miles Crossing. After a mile, cross Lewis and Clark River Bridge; park in the pullout at the elk fence on the right. Visitors must remain on the diked trail system.
