Siltcoos Area Birding
Walk around Lagoon campground to get a clear look at an American bittern. For another birding walk, take the bridge to Waxmyrtle Campground and the Waxmyrtle Trail. This trail follows the Siltcoos River's south side, then bears south to a marsh. Coastal snowy plovers are a threatened species, so use caution when walking on beaches where they are present. Birds to see include the great blue heron, American bittern, green heron, Virginia rail, cinnamon teal, common yellowthroat, common merganser, belted kingfisher, snowy plover, bald eagle, and osprey.
